What is a CSV file?

CSV is a simple file format used to store tabular data, such as a spreadsheet or database (including guest details). Files in the CSV format can be imported to and exported from programs that store data in tables, such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. CSV stands for “comma-separated values”. CSV files have *.csv extension.

Values in a CSV file are usually separated by comma, tab or semicolon. CVS file may have a header row, to describe the values it contains.

Example CSV file for the Guest List App:

First name, Last name, Email address, Description, Company
Anthony, Cliquot, acliquot@clickon.ch, Head of Sales, ClickOn GmbH
Cornelius, Kistler, ck@clickon.ch, Head of Sales, ClickOn GmbH
Daniel, Beltzer, daniel.beltzer@clickon.ch, CTO, ClickOn GmbH

The easiest way to create a CSV file is to use Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. We have a separate guide for each of these methods.
